4-H: Head, Heart, Hands, Health

Answers for F.A.Q.'s about Clubs

What is a 4-H Club?

The heart of 4-H is volunteerism. 4-H is different from many youth organizations because it depends upon volunteers. 4-H exists because there are young people and adults who want it to.

A 4-H Club is a group of youth who meet to set and achieve goals, under the guidance of an adult volunteer.

Neighborhoods can develop community clubs with shared leadership possibilities between adults, or project-focused groups may use 4-H as a way of helping youth learn new skills or rediscover important traditions. Some parents create family 4-H clubs, others enjoy using 4-H as a springboard into the community.

What kinds of 4-H Clubs are there?

4-H is whatever you want it to be. The important thing is to help youth reach their goals. 4-H has traditionally offered many clubs, developed by the needs and demands of the community at large.

Information about club projects can be found at the Washington State University 4-H Project and Publication Page.

(If you don't see a project you are interested in, try a search. You can also usually see samples of most publications at your County Extension office.)
