Washinngton State University and 4-H Scholarships
Washington State University, College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences State 4-H Scholarship: (Must be received by January 31, 2009)
- Dean's Merit Scholarship $3,000.00
- Two @ $1,500.00 for Leadership
- Two @ $1,500.00 for Citizenship/Community Service
Washington State 4-H Scholarships: (Postmarked by March 1, 2009, to State 4-H Teen Leadership Coordinator Jan Klein)
- J. Orville Young Memorial Scholarship (One @ $500.00)
- Lewis County 4-H Leaders Scholarships (Six @ $500.00)
- O.M. Plummer Memorial Scholarship (One @ approximately $575.00)
- Washington State 4-H Foundation Scholarship (One @ $500.00)
- Washington State 4-H Foundation Dairy Endowment Scholarship (Two @ 500.00)
- Must be/have been a 4-H Dairy Member. One for a senior in high school and one for a current college student.

4-H Teen Leadership
Skagit 4-H Youth Leadership
Goals of the Skagit Teen Leadership program:
- encourage youth to take on increasingly challenging learning opportunities
- encourage youth to have a voice in decision making with adults
- promote a teen program that is county wide and leadership focused
- have fun while developing stronger interpersonal skills
4-H gives youth confidence and teaches responsibility. 4-Hers have the chance to develop leadership skills through real hands-on opportunities in their communities.
Tools & Opportunities for Citizenship
Youth in Governance
Teen Leadership should include the opportunity for youth to engage in partnerships with adults, to make goals and be invested in the organizational vision, and to have a voice in making decisions that directly impact the 4-H program.
Public Adventures (11-13)
The national curriculum "Public Adventures" is an excellent tool for helping younger teens understand and participate civic engagement. It provides the necessary link between thinking and doing. Skagit County provides a variety of incentives to teachers, leaders and teens using this curriculum.
Know Your Government (14-19)
Officer skills, how to act in a business meeting, Robert's Rules...WHY?
To become effective citizens. Unfortunately very few youth (or adults) these days exercise their rights in civic engagement. Obviously in order to be a part of the system, you need to understand how it works. Know Your Government teaches 4-Hers all about the accessibility of their government by making them a part of it. Know Your Government usually takes place between December and February every year.

Thinking About Leadership
