Ideas for Living

What is Ideas for Living?

Ideas for Living is a community education program in which trained volunteer facilitators present classes to clients of social service agencies and to members of other selected groups and organizations. The participants are individuals who would benefit from learning new skills, which they can use to improve their day-to-day lives. The goal of each presentation is to enhance life-skills and self-esteem by validating participants' present knowledge and providing research-based information. The classes are available in 60-minute or 90-minute versions depending on the group's needs.

How are the Classes Presented?

The classes are presented by trained volunteer facilitators using lesson plans and training materials developed by WSU Extension. The classes are very interactive and include demonstrations, discussions and hands-on group activities.

Agency Requirements:

Whenever possible, we request that each agency or organization provide the following: a minimum of 5 participants, a classroom or other facility conducive to learning, assistance with making copies of handouts, and child care.

What Does It Cost?

WSU Extension sponsors these programs with additional funding provided bythe USDA Food Stamp Program, Skagit County, and United Way of Skagit County. The classes are offered free of charge as a community service to qualifying agencies and groups. For non-qualifying groups a small fee may be charged.
